LEGAL & GOVERNMENT RELATIONS ANALYST

POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a Legal & Government Relations Analyst to join our growing team. In this fast paced and dynamic position, you will report to the Head of Legal & Government Relations and work closely with key members of senior management. Working directly for one of the most innovative residential property investment teams in the New York Metropolitan area you will be taking your career on a strong upward path.

In this fast paced and exciting position, based out of our Brooklyn office, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Research and write briefing materials on elected officials, government agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders in areas where the Company has invested
  • Provide daily monitoring of local news sources for emerging issues that may affect the Company’s portfolio
  • Maintain database of Company’s press clippings and media hits
  • Track the location of the Company’s properties within electoral districts, neighbourhood association boundaries, and special zoning or redevelopment areas
  • Attend frequent community meetings (typically 2 evenings per week) and report to senior management regarding relevant or otherwise important topics
  • Assist the Property Management Team with compliance with local ordinances, including ensuring property and rent registrations are completed accurately and on time
  • Assist the Property Management Team by drafting standardized templates for tenant correspondence
  • Assist In-House Litigation Counsel with preparing for court appearances for various litigation matters, including landlord/tenant cases and housing/building code violation hearings
  • Track housing and building code violation notices, perform investigation of the alleged violation by interviewing contractors/vendors, members of staff, tenants, and/or other involved parties
  • Coordinate payments for legal settlements and other legal bills with Accounting Department
  • Identify community or industry awards for which the Company may be eligible and coordinate the application process.
  • Assist with the development of the Company’s new corporate charitable giving policy
  • Assist the Marketing Department to ensure that our community relations work furthers the Company’s marketing and advertising goals.
  • Organize and execute quarterly Company-wide volunteer events
  • Provide administrative support to the Head of Legal and Government Relations, including: scheduling appointments, handling data-entry, drafting correspondence, and scanning/filing documents.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong interest in New Jersey politics, particularly Hudson County, NJ
  • Internship(s) or experience with New Jersey elected officials, government agencies, or political campaigns is highly desirable but not essential
  • Extraordinary attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent computer and technology skills
  • Must be available to work non-traditional business hours frequently on weeknights and occasionally on weekends
